Curriculum

Oakwood’s Progressive Core® Curriculum is a developmentally appropriate, integrated, multi-sensory curriculum that focuses on the development of the whole child - intellectually, physically, emotionally,  spiritually and creatively within a supportive and challenging learning environment.

Our philosophy of education is deeply rooted in the Progressive approach. Progressive teaching engages the natural curiosity of children through their construction of knowledge and understanding by creating an active, child-centred learning environment. Current educational research indicates that children learn best by doing and through active participation in the learning process. In a typical Oakwood classroom, teachers facilitate hands-on, whole group and individualized instruction. 

We have developed a strong language arts and mathematics readiness curriculum which is designed to accommodate a range of learning styles and abilities. Our foreign language curriculum introduces students to Spanish starting in preschool and is an exciting introduction to today’s diverse world.

We have incorporated a state of the art computer lab into our school where student-friendly software reinforces our curricular objectives. Our secured playground and structured physical education program ensures proper physical development.
